grainy picture / bad resolution

I've captured a 60 min movie from my Panasonic dv-cam (miniDV) using
WinMovMaker, done som editing and added a few effects. I then used WinDVD
Creator (that came along with XP and this HP comp I just bought) to burn the
movie to DVD+R disc. When playing the movie on my Philips dvd-player the
picture just isn't good enough - it looks a little bit like the home movies
your daddy shot with his no-better-than avarage camera in the mid '70s; that
is, you can see who's in the picture all right, but the picture isn't SHARP.
I'm all new to this so...any mistake is possible:) Using firewire, no usb.
Used "Best quality - 60min" when asked by the program.
Your help is most wanted; how to improve the quality of the picture?
Thanks,
/Pete

Capture as DV-AVI; save movie as DV-AVI; burn DVD.
