DV AVI files have no sound!

Hi, I am using XP SP2 and MM2.1
I am capturing from my camera thru' firewire in DV AVI format (I want to
keep the quality as high as possible).
Once I have edited my movie, I generate it. I would LIKE to use DV AVI
format again so that I can keep the quality high & burn a DVD to show my
movies through a standard DVD player.
Despite all my efforts, the DV AVI files play in Media Player without sound
(it requests a codec and fails to get it).
It plays fine in Movie Maker but without sound in anything else.
I can get round the issue by making the movies in .wmv format, but the
quality isn't as high.
I used Gspot to identify the codec, it failed to recognise the audio codec
but the video codec is 'DV decoder'
I am at a loss!! help!!!

when I capture the movie I CAN hear the sound when I play it in MM, it's just
when I try and play it in media player or any other app. that I cannot hear
anything.
Could the camcorder cause that kind of a problem?

Hi I made the change. the camcorder was set at 12bit and I changed it to
16bit (not sure what the difference is!) The change was made in the
recording side, so I shot a small scene but the DV-AVI created file had the
same issue - no sound when played outside of MM...

if you hear the audio with Movie Maker or anything else, then you know it's
there.... which makes it a playback issue with your player/computer.

the difference between the 12 and 16 bit is.... by default you have two sets
of 12 bit audio tracks, one for the audio as captured while shooting, and
the other to add narration, using the camcorder to do it. The 16-bit is a
single set of channels (left and right stereo) that is higher quality than
the 12 bit, but it then doesn't let you add narration with the camcorder,
which is fine if you're doing your narrating on your computer.
