All of a sudden, the prices of the AMD 64s and the X2 are
just diving down. The X2 4200 is only $188 at Mwave.
So .. big question ... is this going to continue? Can I / we
afford to wait for the X2 4800 to drop below $200.
Word is an 80% gain in speed over the fastest single
cpu AMD, and big gains in multimedia. And what is
the deal on the chipset? My new GA-K8NF-9 is a 939
chipset .. which the adds claim is compatible with the
"AM2" chipset ??? I worry that the jargon could hand
me an incompatible upgrade to my brand new AMD
Athlon 64 ( single ) 3700+ which was a very good price
about 4 months ago. I was looking to upgrade to an
X2 sometime next summer. But now ...... ?????

That suks... As usual... I jumped to soon, and bought an
Athlon64 3800+ Venice for $166.00 including S&H last month, cause it
looked as if prices where going up. Now I find I could have waited,
and got an X2 for around the price I paid. Won't do another upgrade
now till I can get the fastest S939 X2, FX, or Opteron processor for
what I paid for the Athlon64 3800+ Venice. Gona be another 2 socket
generations till then.

Yep. About half. That is so great, it doesn't count
as a mere drop in price. It could gut the market,
and stop production of the cpu s we are planning
to upgrade towards. Looks like it is time to jump
the gun and just buy an X2, and keep the single
for a backup.

It's been known for well over a month now that AMD was going to slash
prices near the end of July. You should have done your homework before
buying.

I heard the talk as well, but in the past when talk of price
cuts came about on hardware, it usally only involved highend parts
that would stay out of my price range even after the price cuts. The
parts that where within my price range would usally disappear, or go
up in price.
Newegg had the 3800+ Venice at the time for $150.00. I was
gona wait to see if it dropped another $10.00. I checked a few days
later, and see they had sold out. The other CPUs actually went up a
few bucks, so I figured this was gona be the trend, and I was about to
miss out on getting the cheapest price for the CPUs in my price range.
I checked out Froggle, and the 3800+ Venice chips listed from
there where around $289.00. I was looking to spend no more than
$170.00 for at least a 3800+ Venice. I ended up finding a new retail
3800+ Venice on eBay for $165.00 shipped. I jumped on it, and found
out a little while later that there where other dealers that had them
for around $150.00. A couple of days later, Newegg had them listed
again for around $143.00, while the 3000+, 3200+, and 3500+ dropped to
around $100.00.
Now the X2 3800+ is a few bucks more than I paid. They will
now disappear along with the X2 4200 S939 chips, and all S939 dual
cores will be far out my price range for a long time. :(

Just watch for a few days.Prices drop almost every day by at least a dollar
or two between larger price drops every cfew weeks..It's dog eat dog in the
comuter hardware business.

I actually called Viewsonic and asked them to drop
the price on their 21 inch wide LCD monitor. Also,
the Samsung 21 wide has been sitting at $480 for
a coons age. That is tempting, but I want to pay
about $350 for it. Hey! It's worth a try. Viewsonic
lady said they would, and thanked me for calling.
I want that X2 4800+. I built one, and it benched
so high, that I won't tell you guys. It would make
you mad.
