Google Mail

I'm sorry, Gary, but I have seen stacks of queries on emails on this forum
so I assumed... I've been at most of the morning following the instructions
on the link you gave me. But now I'm stuck again. Apparently there should
be something in the subfolder imap.gmail.com to drag and drop into a
Notepad. There is nothing in my subfolder though. Otherwise it seems that
[Google Mail] should be called [Gmail] as I don't get error messages for
that. I can't get rid of the Google Mail folders however, until I finish
with the instructions as at least my mail comes and goes OK.
Another thing - the instructions changed the outgoing port number to 465.

Please tell me where to get email advice from?

Thanks, D

For which email program? If it's Windows Mail, this newsgroup (sometimes
shown as a forum) is the right place.

It appears that my emails are not going through to "Reply to Sender" so am
trying "Reply to Group". Emails send to Gary and Robert are returned
undelivered. Have now changed out port back to 25.

Most email addresses posted in newsgroups are fake, for the purpose
of thwarting spammers who harvest such email addresses. Newsgroup
custom does not sanction responding via private email ("Reply to Sender").
It violates the 'one-to-many' communications sharing spirit of newsgroups.
Also, I would be inundated by requests for help if I posted my private
email address here.

Port 465 is correct for sending to Gmail.
Sorry, I have no insight in the finer points of IMAP mail.
Hopefully someone reading this has it working properly
and will share their settings with us.

I have managed to complete carrying out the instructions on the link Gary
gave me earlier. Everything is working well. I just wish I had had the
instructions sooner (BEFORE I downloaded my gmail folders) as I still have
the [Google Mail] folders with their contents and still get the following
error:
Header download for the '[Google Mail]' folder did not complete. Could not
select '[Google Mail]' on the IMAP server. You might try refreshing your
folder list to synchronize with the IMAP server. Account: 'imap.gmail.com',
Server: 'imap.gmail.com', Protocol: IMAP, Server Response: 'Unknown Mailbox:
[Google Mail] (Failure)', Port: 993, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number:
0x800CCCD2
These instructions SHOULD appear on Google AND Windows Mail.

Now I have to watch where my emails go and try to fix up the folders. I
have tried to delete the [Google Mail] folder, which didn't work, maybe just
as well until I see what is happening with the subfolders.

Anyway, thanks for the link Gary! I really do appreciate it.

Here is the link Gary gave me for all who may be interested:

If you can do this from scratch, all the better, but unfortunately by the
time you look here you will have had problems.

I dabbled with IMAP a few times, but found it to be more troublesome
then POP mail, so I'm sticking with the devil I know. :)
