Good pop ups gone bad?

Having a little problem with IE6. I cannot get some "pop
ups" that I need to get through sites and to download
updates from Microsoft. I have run virus scans numerous
times, attempted to reinstall IE but still no avail.
Please help if possible. I have XP home on a gateway.

Running any "junkbusting" stuff? Spam filters, etc.

Search for a file called "HOSTS" or "hosts", no quotes - no file extension.
(may be hidden) <

*If* found.
Rename to: "NOHOSTS" or "nohosts" (no quotes - no file extension).
Reboot, see if that makes a difference.
