Go Button inoperative in URL Bar

A friend of mine has suddenly found that the "Go" button next to his URL Bar
in Internet Explorer has ceased to work.

When he types an address into the Address Bar nothing happens when he clicks
on the Go button or pushes Return/Enter.

I got him to download and run Spybot just in case it is anything to do with
spyware but it doesn't seem to have worked.

An ideas would be appreciated.

EXACTLY the same thing happens to me, and I think it started after I
downloaded the Windows updates released last week (about 4/18).

Also, all MS Office programs freeze when I click Save As and try to open a
folder to save the file in.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have found the solution!

It is caused by a Microsoft update 908531 which came out on the 12th April.

See Knowledge Base article 918165

YES. I just figured it out, too. Unistalling this particular update gets rid
of this error and of another one that causes Office programs to freeze when
you click Save As.

Hi! Wow, I'm so glad I found this post..I've been searching all over for an
answer...thankfully not a virus, etc. I found that only the addresses saved
in my cache worked in the address bar. Nothing else! I hope support staff
review these forums...
Thanks!

Joanne,

I am assuming your operating system is Windows XP - if not this will not
help.

In your circumstances I suggest you 'Restore' you computer to a date on or
before the 12th April as I would not suggest you play about with the
registry.

1.Log on to Windows as Administrator. (If it is your own pc you can probably
just log on as normal)
2.Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System
Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
3.On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an
earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
4.On the Select a Restore Point page, click a date that is in BOLD about the
11th April, and then click Next. A System Restore message may appear that
lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
5.On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore
restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the
computer.
6.Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration
Complete page appears.
7.Click OK.

This should solve your problem but only until Microsoft issue a new update -
hopefully they will put this mistake right then and you will find the
problem solved.

I experienced the same problems: The "Go" button on IE 6.0 failed to link to
the page, and the "Save" and "Print" functions in Office Professional caused
programs to lock-up.

I corrected the problem through a security update of Office Professional
(SP3). The problem has not re-surfaced, and I was not required to remove the
offending security update.
