Global Address list problem - Cached Exchange mode

Jeff turl

We use Cached Exchange mode for Outlook 2003 on our
Exchange 2003 server. If I update the AD with new
contacts etc, our users Global address list in Outlook are
not automatically updating, even when they come out of
Outlook and go back in. If i turn off the 'Use cached
exchange mode' the problem goes away. Is there another
way around this problem?

Jeff,

If you add a new user to Active Directory they will not be added (by
default) to the Offline Address Book (created/stored on the Exchange server)
until 4:00 a.m. the morning after this user was added. So, no matter what
you do in Outlook cached mode you will not see this new user until at least
4:00 a.m. the next morning.

If you need to see this new user in cached mode clients you would have to do
the following:

1. Rebuild your Offline Address Book on the server.
2. Once step 1 is finished, press F9 on the Outlook client to perform a
Send/Receive (which should include a download of the OAB).

If you turn off cached mode then you are not using the local OAB for name
lookup/resolution, you are using the online GAL. This explains why turning
off cached mode "fixes" the problem.

Hope this helps.
