Gigabyte SINXP-1394 and SATA problem

William Smith

I just bought a Maxtor 250 GB SATA hard drive and want to use it as my
primary hard disk instead of my current Western Digital 120GB ATA-133 drive.
I've copied the ATA-133 drive over to the SATA drive with PowerQuest Drive
Image 7.0, but when I try to boot off of my SATA drive, nothing happens. I
boot the system without the ATA-133 drive attached, and have changed the
settings in the BIOS to boot from a SCSI drive per some tech help I got from
Gigabyte. One thing I have noticed is with both drives in the system, I can
access the SATA drive fine, so long as the ATA-133 drive is hooked up and I
don't set up the SCSI drive in the boot disk sequence. Any suggestions?

Did you load the SATA drivers from your motherboard disk? The normal
procedure is to load them during the XP installation, but I believe you can
load them by booting to your PATA drive, then installing the SATA drivers to
your SATA OS from the installation CD. Your motherboard manual should tell
you. Since you are only using a single drive, you will want to load the
"base" drivers and not the "RAID" drivers.
