gif and jpg file types not restored after removing MS Photo Editor

I've just unistalled the Photo Editor in MS Office, causing some of my file
types to be misconfigured, including gif and jpg. Is there a way of
resetting these types to pre-Office definitions, i.e. like standard in
WinXP?

Hi dOink,

Try the following and see if it restores the functionality for you:

Start -> Run -> regsvr32 %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll
Close and reopen the window and see if it has restored the Picture Tasks.

If that doesn't work, try the following:

Right clicking one of your pictures (gif or jpg) and selecting Open With ->
Choose Program.
Under Programs, Select "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer". Check the box for
"Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
Click Ok.
Try again. If this works, do the same for the other file types.

Thanks,

In case someone has a similar problem, I did the following registry edit
(may also be performed from File Types in Folder Options):

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gif]
@="giffile"
"Content Type"="image/gif"

(and similar for .jpg and .jpeg extensions)

That apparently eliminated the problem and restored my file type
definition/behaviour -- and made my day ;-)
