GF installed 98 drivers for MP3 player...doh!

The GF decided it'd be a great idea to install drivers from the CD that came
with her MP3 player. As they are for 98 that wasn't too bright. Now rather
than showing up as a removable drive, the system trys to find drivers for a
"stmp3500" and fails to find any.

I've tried going back to a restore point before we had the mp3 player and
thats not worked. I've tried right clicking on the device in device manager
and selecting uninstall and thats not worked.

Any ideas how I can get it to just appear as a drive?

Thanks

go back to device manager and view the present driver...then opt to update
drivers...
next... install the proper XP drivers

There are no XP drivers for this device. It's just supposed to appear as a
removable mass storage device. Like a USB memory key. Only now it thinks
it's something it does need drivers for. I need to convince WinXP that it
doesn't need to hunt for drivers to work this device and accept it as
removable storage.

If there was an "install" process, check in Add/Remove Programs to see
if there is an "uninstall" process entry.

If thee is no "uninstall" process listed in Add/Remove Programs, you
will need to search for the .INF file that XP now uses to always keep
installing the 98 drivers and carefully remove it.
