XP wont recognise MP3 player

Can anyone help me I have bought an mp3 player but xp
refuses to recognise the device, or tells me that the
device is present but not working properly, I have tried
the player on other pc's with windows 98, 2000 etc and it
works perfectly, please could somebody help me

Most MP3 Players don't need XP drivers. They just install as removable
disks. Try removing the problem hardware from Device Manager and reboot
and plug it back in and see if that helps. Also, you can try editing
the registry. Here is what you want to look for there (unplug the
device before doing this):

Click Start-Run-Type regedit and click OK. Expand to:
HKLM\System\CCS\Enum\USB\

Find the folder containing the problem device and delete the folder
starting with Vid_Xxxx that contains the device information in it. Now
reboot and plug the device back in and see if that resolves the problem.

I have a disk that was supplied but when i try to install
it it says that as I have windows xp then it has no driver
needed and the installation process stops?
