getting vcrtl missing error message

I was doing a disk clean up and got an error message that says I am missing
the i386/vcrtl.man in the service pack file. Message tells me to install the
CD and reinstall the Windows XP KB924667 source file.

However, I can not find my Windows XP cd to correct this problem. Is there
another way to get the vcrtl back? It is causing issues with trying to
install a new keyboard and mouse to my system now.

Thanks

There must be more going on. The download of the update failed on this as
well. It is not allowing the updates to sucessfully install.

having a similar issue (after removing rogue "AntiVirus 2009" with
freeware ccleaner): missing i386/vcrtl.bat, system restore unsucessful,
no backup cd.

Can the single file be copied directly to the correct location?

That file is not a Windows file, so you probably don't want to restore
it. To remove the call for the file, click Start, Run, type REGEDIT,
click OK. Press the Home key, press F3, type the name of the file into
the search pane. Click "Find Next", and when located, delete the
reference to the file. Press F3 to continue the search.

You can click File, Export, and save the entry to the Desktop. If you
remove it and there's a problem, double-click the .reg file you exported
to the Desktop and it'll be added to the registry again. You can create
a restore point before editing the registry too.

You could click Start, Run, type MSCONFIG, click OK, click the StartUp
tab, and deselect the item(s). When you restart the computer, you will
be warned that you're running in the Diagnostic mode; click to not alert
you again, and OK out. You won't see the message again. But I think
it's best to just remove the references from the registry.
