Getting the Serial Com Ports to Work with data cable in Windows XP Pro

Steven Hullah

Hi

I am trying to find a way of getting the serial or com
ports working in Windows Xp i recently bought an unlocking
kit for my Siemens MC60 mobile telephone and i cannot use
the unlocking functions OR the data cable under Windows XP
because the phone is not recognised as being connected I
have an ASUS A7V8X Motherboard with AMD Athlon xp 2400,
512mb PC3200 ram, 2 x 60gb hard disk drives and i am
pretty clued up about hardware. However if this is a
registry thing i will need real laymans help

....also...i was told by a sales assistant in a Siemens
shop that Windows XP uses com ports differently to Windows
98/ME whihc is understandable but he reckons you have to
download an update or a patch? I am using Service Pack 1
if you know the name, location or both for this 'alleged'
file then that too would be appeciated

thanks Folks Any Help would be greatly appreciated :)

Have you tried rebooting the computer while the cable and telephone are
plugged in? Windows XP ignores external modems that are not on when the
computer is booted and this may be the same problem.

If you don't want to reboot, I think you can go into device
manager, right click on modems, and have it rescan for a newly
connected modem.
