Getting Rid of a Program

A

Allen

Long story - A system tech formatted my hard drive and
reinstalled Windows XP last year. He saved everything
that had previously been on my hard drive and then
reinstalled it under the name "allens docs".
Unfortunately, over time, that led to a great many
duplicate files which I have now been deleting. One of
the duplicates was M/S Home Publishing 2000 which existed
both in the "C:\allens docs\Program Files" and in
the "C:\Program Files" directories. I deleted the first
one. Now, when I boot up, I get a window saying "Windows
Installer...Preparing to install", and then another
window saying "Microsoft Home Publishing 2000...the
feature you are trying to use is on a CD rom..." and
finally a window saying "Error 1706 Valid source could
not be found..." When I open the System Configuration
Utility, by running msconfig, I see startup items in 3
locations, "HKLM\SOFTWARE.....", and also in Common
Startup and also in Startup. None of these is obviously
the Home Publishing reference I am looking for. Further,
while I know how to access the "Startup" items (by
opening Start\Programs\Startup) I have no idea how to
access the items in the other two locations. Can someone
please help me with this mess??? Thank you.

Re-install the application and make sure it is set to run all from
computer. I'm not familiar with MS Home Publishing but if it's like MS
Office install that message will apear if you do a typical or default
installation.
