getting hotfix 822430

A

An Ony

Hi,

finally I found what's wrong with my explorer and it's exactly this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822430

Now they say you can't download it, but have to request it?
I tried that link to the customer service, but it's not really helping:
explorer isn't listed as a product, and it sure isn't made by another
company than Microsoft, so telephone numbers for Compaq or Dell etc is
really stupid to list there :/
MS did list a few addresses ,but hey, the year is 2004: I don't write
letters anymore!

Can anyone help me getting this hotfix, because waiting for XP-SP2 is just
too long to cope with this problem.

TIA!

No one but Microsoft support has access to this hotfix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product
Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of
Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers and information
about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[LN];CNTACTMS

Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls
may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific
update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional
support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

I'm beginning to wonder about the state of literacy these days - the number
of people who can't read is absolutely astounding (or, if they can read,
they can't comprehend).

It *TELLS* you in the article. If your licence is OEM it doesn't matter!

You need to call microsoft, wait till you hear "if youre calling for
a hot-fix press ....." you then get directed to a tech.

Ah thanks for a decent answer.
Do you know if I will need to pay for that? Don't have a creditcard...

I can read fine thank you very much, but I don't comprehend your words. Hey,
I even did a search on that page for the word 'OEM', it isn't there. Helping
people isn't easy for you, is it?

you seem to be missing the process.

if you purchased the computer with XP the mfg has the responsibility to
provide the hotfix. If it was a clean install or upgrade then MS will help
you

the link takes you here
http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx?rdpath=fh;en-us;cntactms

the product is windows XP either home or pro

you can call or email them.

I purchased XP full version so your screen here may be different!

I apologise. Carey is perfectly correct, you will need to contact your
system manufacturer.

A decent answer?! From Andrew the Eejit?! That would be like Lexmark making
a decent printer! It'll never happen!

As Carey stated, you will need to call the manufacturer of your system.

Hi,

No, you won't. Hotfixes are free as long as you do not ask for any other
support.
