Getting files in Windows Explorer *MY WAY*

C

Chris Barnes

Ok, I admit that not showing the average user all the nitty-gritty
files, and even folders, is probably a good idea. After all, do they
really need to see what get's burried way down into
c:\users\userid\AppData\etc?

OTOH, *I* am not an average user. I customize my Start Menu. I play
with the registry (well... I haven't yet, but I'm sure I will).

I WANT Explorer to just list all my files (details) - including the file
extensions even if I know what program should open them. And I
absolutely want to see all of the hidden system folders.

So how can I make the OS do what I want it to do?
After all, *I* am the boss - not the OS.

Just ask the OS and will give you what you want... just like in XP

Select Organize then Folder & Search Options

click the View tab

tell it;
not to hide known extensions
not to hide protected OS files
and to show hidden files

Just a hint (of course, I could be wrong since I am still exploring it) -
you can do little if anything at all to those hidden folders and that's not
like in XP, so the point to see them is really useless.

It is not a flexible OS by all accounts.

Chris,

Not being an average user why are you using the "average" Explorer? Why
don't you use a real file manager program and have all the customizations
you could ever want? Why not use Total Commander?

I have NOT used any version of Explorer for file management since Windows 95
came out and I am happy to say that I don't miss it at all.

Sounds like you should try XYplorer, which is advertised as "The file
manager that lets you do it your way." :)

Actually, moving the documents folder (to D:\Docs) and the Desktop (also
to the D: drive) was much easier with vista than xp.
