getting extra language bars and screwed up task bar

Hello,

In a computer with XP SP2, fully updated, an odd thing occurs every some
days(irregularly). The task bar gets an extra section added to it and
the windows buttons section (where all the buttons corresponding to open
windows are shown) gets really small. When I right click on the task
bar, I notice that some two or three extra language bars have appeared
of their own accord. By unchecking them, the task bars begins to get
back to normal. But usually a reboot is required to get things right,
and that too sometimes needs to be repeated.

The computer has no games in it. It has virtual desktops installed. Most
of the time the only applications running are Firefox, Yahoo Messenger,
MS Office 2003 and Adobe PDF reader.

Can anybody shed any light how to get rid of this problem of apparent
reconfiguration of the task bar?

thanks,
Sam.

For starters I doubt that you need to reboot. Try logging out and in again
while you are tracking down the real problem.

Yeah, that works too, but it sometimes takes a few logout login cycles.
However, what interests me more is the actual cause of this mess up. Any
ideas?

Sam.

This can happen when you use the machine as a Remote Desktop
host, having different language settings on the Remote Desktop client.

Nope, never did that on this machine.
