Hi,

i am having Dell Vostro 1000 notebook. Operating system is Windows XP Home
Edition.

for last few days i have removed my battery from my notebook

From the wallsocket the charger was directly plugged in to my notebook and
it was working fine. (pls note battery has been removed from my notebook)

unfortunately yesterday while getting up, the charger removed from my
notebook (my notebbok was ON at that time) and the notebook got switched off
suddenly.

when i On it- it showed me the message "windows was not shutdown
properly........... with safe mode, last good configuuration, etc " option
then i choosed run windows normal option after that windows load the initial
files after that an error message is displayed "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" with
blue background screen.

Then switched off and restarted with last good configuration ... option
still the same message. Tried with safe mode and other option too, still same
message was displayed.

Then i Run the diagnostics --- Result were pass for memory, display ,
audio, etc

But got error message in Hard disk
1] Sata disk - S.M.A.R.T long self test
Error msg - IDE devices failed, the self test failed

2] Sata disk - Read Test
Error msg - Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected
=====================================================

need help for this solution whereas i dont want to reinstall my OS or format
my C drive becuase all my important university files are stored in it.

displayed and what it mean by--- if u can

You are running an DELL in built IDE (PATA) HDD Diag (Also known as hard
disk drive confidence test) on a SATA Drive that why you are getting
result - failed.

To resolve Unmountable boot volume error

1.) Boot the laptop using the windows xp Cd (You may have to change the BIOS
settings to be able to boot from cd)

2.) After Loading files when its says welcome to setup , Press R

3.) If it ask you choose the windows installation press 1 then enter the
administrator password if you have one.

4.) Now you will have prompt like c:\windows\ enter CHKDSK /P in the prompt
and press enter.

5.) After CHKDSK Completes the test (it may report one or more errors found
in harddisk.) enter FIXBOOT in the prompt

6.)Type EXIT after FIXBOOT,Remove the cd from the drive and reboot the
computer this should resolve the problem.
