Getting Dumped offline

This is the second time I've formatted the HD, reloaded everything, Win XP
HE, the first time with AOL as the ISP, the second time with MSN as the ISP.
Now when we go online and go into various sites, a pop-up from the box comes
up and says "Back web has a problem and needs to shut down" Bam. We get
dumped off line. AND we CAN get back online, we may re-enter the same
web-site successfully or we may get dumped somewhere else. It also is making
a error-record. I can send that to whoever needs it as an attachment.
Thanks, Kenny.

BackWeb can be considered a spyware/adware program that some manufactures
put on the PC's from the factory. They are most likely paid by the
publisher's for each copy they install.

Your PC is probably an HP or a Compaq. You shouldn't have to re-format and
re-install windows to stop this, although this is probably what a phone
tech recommended doing after 15 mins. on the phone. I'm pretty sure that
there's an un-install for it thru Add/Remove Programs.

It really is a shame that manufactures actual put stuff like BackWeb on a
pre-configured computer.

Hi Kenny,

Disable backweb from loading. It is an unnecessary add-on application
included with many preinstalled systems. Click start/run, type msconfig and
click ok. Go to the startup tab and uncheck the line that loads it. Click
apply/ok and reboot.
