We recently had virus, and are unable to uninstall all of the Norton
Antivirus in order to download the new. We have tried everything and have
decided is is worth dumping everything to go back to bare minimum. I am
looking to use the recovery CD to go back, but how do I get it to load and
not over the top of what is there. We really think we need to dump
everything and build back up. Any suggestions?

As a general rule, Janet, the Recovery CD will offer the option of a complete reinstall (usually includes formatting of the drive).

Doug, I put the CD in and restart, but it goes right back to logging on a
usual how to I get it to go to the cd and do recovery?

Hi Janet : I believe you need to perform this , Though i'm surprise you do
with your preinstall operating system , but any ways try this :
Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

Janet,

Sometimes you can just hit the ESC key at the end of the BIOS screen and get a boot menu of devices to choose from.
