Getting by in Vista without a keyboard

I've recently "upgraded" my Compaq computer to Vista (HP) and have been
studiously upgrading all my drivers (inluding Firefox for IE7 - it keeps on
"stopping" despite reseting the damn thing) and had got around to MS
Intellitype for my Wireless Multilmedia keyboard - until I noticed that it
was installed as a standard Compaq offering which excluded the multi function
keys. So, I uninstalled it and restarted and the New Hardware Wizard told me
it had found a Compaq keyboard. So I uninstalled it and restarted and now I
can't get in to Windows because neither mouse nor keyboard (it's password
protected) are working.

HELP!

I tried Safe Mode up it still wants a password and wont let me in! Anyone
know how to get around this one and also get the MS keyboard rather than the
Compaq one to install?

PLEASE?

I ran into this after trying to install a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Tech-Support told me to ShutDown, then hold in the Power button for Two Full
Minutes, and then immediately unplug both keyboard and mouse and plug them
both back in.

Apparently, this is a hardware reset, because the computer restarted
normally, right into windows.

Thanks, Kristle - tried that, but no success - the BIOS recognises the
keyboard (I can use all the keys to interact with the setup, etc.) but when
Windows loads it gives up and goes home and doesn't allow me to log on.

Of course, my last backup was ages ago and I don't want to have to do a
fresh install - I'd prefer someone to give me a simple solution!

Plug in a different keyboard?
Once logged in, you can remove the KB driver that doesn't work & switch back
as desired.

Yeah - tried that, too, but even with a hardwired PS2 keyboard and mouse - no
action! It's as though the Windows drivers are missing!
