Getting at a password protected directory

My problem is that I am taking a faulty drive from a windowsXP OS and
trying to retrieve data from it. The problem with the drive is in the
boot sector so I can not use this drive as my primary drive and
therefore can't use this drive as my primary drive. I have added the
drive as a second drive. When I go to the "my documents" folder for
the user I can not get in because it had a password on the user for
that directory. Is there a way to bypass this to recover the data in
my documents. Any help is appreciated.

If the folder is actually password protected (or encrypted) - taking
ownership will not help - taking ownership may provide access when assigned
permissions are in effect.
If taking ownership is successful - great. If not most Linux distributions
permit access to Windows folders -
Google "kopi" for free version and info.
