This is turning into quite a little problem for me. I am
running Windows XP home edition. I've already tried other
forums, as well as Dell tech support, and they pretty
much gave up and told me to consider formatting.

Here is my problem:

I have a folder on my desktop called: Take Me Out..

I created that folder sometime ago, to store temporary
files and what not when I was working on stuff. Now I no
longer need it, and want to erase it.

When trying to erase, I get the following error.
Title of error is: Error deleting file or folder.
Error message is: Cannot Delete file: Cannot read from
source file or disk.

When I try to double click the folder and open it, it
says:

C:\Documents and Settings\Danny\Desktop\Take Me Out..
Refers to a location that is unavailable. Blah blah
blah...

I have tried logging in as Admin under safe mode and
there is no 'security' tab under properties. And I cannot
delete it. Also, I have tried the RD /s /q command in
the command prompt, and get the error: The system cannot
find the file specified.

I have made sure there are no processes which are
invovling the folder, and also searching the windows
registry and no references are made (stupid Dell tech
suggested those).

Anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm really stuck on
this one.

How do I delete an "undeletable" file?

Sometimes you want to delete a file but when you do so an error message pops
and tells you it cannot be done. Do successfully delete such a file do the
following:

1.. Open a Command Prompt window and leave it open.

2.. Close all open programs.

3.. Open TASKMGR.EXE from the Run command or by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC

4.. Go to the Processes tab and End Process on Explorer.exe.

5.. Leave Task Manager open.

6.. Go back to the Command Prompt window and change to the directory where
the undeletable file is located in. At the command prompt type DEL
<filename> where <filename> is the file you wish to delete.

7.. Go back to Task Manager, click File, New Task and enter EXPLORER.EXE
to restart the GUI shell.

8.. Close Task Manager.
