Generic Host Win 32

I have a persistent problem with a "Generic Host Service
Win 32" fault any ideas?

I keep getting programs just shutting down, and
increasingly I get blue screen on start up, all problems
seem to be within the system32 folder. The most common is
the Generic Host Services Win32 fault.

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show? If you
know your computer is clean and are still having the problem, then
please repost with a better description of your system, what changed
between the time things worked and the time they didn't, and what
you've done to troubleshoot.
