Generic Host Process Win32 services

B

Bill

I am running WIN XP Home w/sp2 - for no apparent reason, upon reboot I am
getting:

"Generic Host Process for WIN 32 Services has encountered a problem and
needs to close"

there is the option to send a report.

I have:

a red shield, with white X, in the systray for the security alerts
system restore will not start
the taskbar goes from double height to single height for no apparent reason

these are things I have found so far that appear to be abnormal

any ideas appreciated

TIA
Bill

You wouldnt happen to be running SpySweeper would you? I am having the same
problem on 3 machines and the common thread on them all is SpySweeper. I
wasnt having the problem on the 3rd computer until i downloaded and
installed the trial version of SpySweeper on it yesterday and today when i
got in the error was waiting for me. I think its a problem with the latest
build and not a Microsoft issue that causes the same problem.

There is a patch on the Microsoft site (Referenced in KB873333), but i
installed it and it did not work. If you are running SpySweeper try
disabling the automatic startup when windows loads and see if the error pops
up again. I have been running fine now for about 3 hours since uninstalling
the trial version.
