General Protection Fault with Charisma 2.1

I have an old version (2.1) of Micrografx Charisma that I
have used for years for very limited purposes. It ran fine
under Windows NT 4 but generates a General Protection Fault
error in module Charisma.bin with XP.

Any idea what's happening here? I've tried all the options
on the shortcut compatability properties tab with no luck.

Yes - what is happening is that your older Charisma will not run under a
different operating system than what it was designed for. Since you've
already tried compatibility mode, and I assume you've contacted
Charisma for updates with no luck, then accept that this program won't
run under XP. Either move to a program that was coded for XP, or keep
an older box around running NT4 for Charisma.
