When I play a dvd on Windows Media Player the sound is garbled. The picture
is perfect but the sound is impossible to understand..does anyone know
why?..do I have to download something...or get a new dvd drive?

You might want to check out my first response to you in this thread which
went as follows:
Is your graphics card sharing memory with main system memory or does it have
its own memory. If the card is sharing with main system memory, if you
don't know, you'll need to check your system documentation or contact the
manufacturer, that could be the reason. Even if the system has 512MB of
ram, if it has to apportion some of that to the graphics card, it could be
depriving the soundcard of necessary resources.

Now, if we have some information about your setup as well as the type of
DVDs, are they commercial or did you burn them yourself, we might be able to
give you a little more assistance but you need to check out your setup as
I've outlined.
