Gaming at 800x600

I'm upgrading my HTPC, and would like to try some of the new games like
FEAR or Quake 4. My display, an RCA MM36100, is limited to 800x600
resolution. My question is, are some of the higher-end video cards
wasted at this resolution? I'm thinking of getting something like a
GeForce 6600 PCI-E card.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte NF4 GA-K8N with a 3000+ AMD 64.

Should not be a problem, I use to game at that resolution on a hd tv,
with no problems. It does look a little washed out, as you think a big
TV should have great resolution, so watching someone frag someone else
your not going to get the great detail as you would want.

As far as Q4 is concerned it should play it fine, right now I have a
6600gt with an AMD 2600 xp, at 800x600 its playable, but I have to have
it on low quality, at times I have to switch to a lower resolution
during multiplayer games to avoid the lag on some servers.
