Windows Vista game won't play

I'm trying to install 'The Still Life' onto my new laptop. It plays just fine on my parents computer, but when I try playing the game on mine, it takes me to a black screen, and then just doesn't do anything. What do I do?

Update your video drivers and make sure you have the newest version of DirectX installed.

If this doesn't work it maybe that your laptops graphics aren't compatible.... laptops are still being made with gpus that can't do Shader Modelling 3.
