Game installation problems Windows XP

G

Guest

Hopefully somone can halp me with this problem, I have exhausted the support team at EA games... :
The problem described below applies to Madden2003, Tiger Woods 2004, NHL2003 etc.. (all of them...
I'm running Windows XP on my machine (and it's brand new!

The installation begins with asking for the verification code but after I type it in, it is as if the installation has been cancelled (I end up back in windows). Note that I am not entering the wrong code! This happens on all of the mentioned games :
Atfer entering the code when trying to install for instance Tiger Woods I get the question 'Are you sure you want to cancel the installation' even though i pressed the 'ok' button (which should continue the installation, not cancel it!

Anyway, I updated my drivers, directx and so forth but the problem remains... until today when I got alittle bit further
I have three user accounts on the computer (all with admin access), and when I changed to another account and tried to install the games installation continued without any problems until the very end of the installation process where they all crashed again..
I also tried installting them on the third account but then I had the same problems as with the first, it didn't work

This made me suspect Windows being the problem. Why does installation go further with one of the three accounts even though the all have admin rights and are basically all the same

Can anyone give me some tips on this one? Would appreciate it!! :

Hi Fred,

Try changing your regional setting to USA / English.
I have a suspicion that the CD Key you're typing isn't
being accepted because of the way it's translating the
keyboard codes. Good luck Fred, I hope this works! :)

Hi Jimmy

Changing the language setting seems to make no difference. The problem remains
I have also tried shutting down all unnessecary processes using the StartupManager Program (you gave that tip to someone in a problem I thought might be related, a tip also given from the EA Games Support)

The funny part is that on only one out of three accounts I have I can continue the installation after entering the verification code and not on the other two (the installation then instead crashes at a later stage when it is about to finish). That makes no sence since they are all admin accounts

Why is there a difference between the accounts? And why didn't I get a Macintosh? ;) Just kidding..

Any more suggestions, anyone? IM DYING HERE!! :

Hi Fred,

Wait for others suggestions first, and keep this as a last resort:

If you have room on one of your partitions, use it to install another
clean installation of Windows. Windows will automatically setup
a dual boot, and if the new installation works, you can transfer
your data and programs over to the new installation before you
remove the old one. Another possible option is to repair windows:

Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows:

Install your games for your users and test them.

Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,

Hello again,

Today I tried installing yet another game. This time I get passed the verification codes part but then there is a pop-up saying "Error " and then something about "SetCache bla bla fail" but the installation continues and halts with "shutdown failure". Any thoughts on that? :)

The Windows repair procedure you suggested, will that remove any of my own files, bookmarks etc be removed and do I have to install my programs again?

By the way, I know nothing about partitions, but as I understand it I can make one and install XP on the new one to see if it's working properly and after that 'destroy' the 'old' one?

Thank you for you help so far!

When was the last time you thoroughly checked you system with your
anti-virus software running the latest definitions? You might also consider
running some Trojan-checking programs like the free AdAware
(www.lavasoftusa.com) . The random errors and trouble with installing
programs may be a result of some hefty Trojans on the system.

Have you looked in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer and
clicked on Application in the left pane? This will reveal events on your
system, and perhaps some error messages correlating to the time of your
problems. You can right-click those error notations, select Properties and
get an indication of what's going on with the system.

Hi Fred,

You can only make a partition if you have unpartitioned space
available on your hard drive. If your C:\ partition takes up your
entire drive however (which is most likely the case) then you
would have to delete the current partition and reformat, or use
a utility such as Partition Magic to divide C:\ into C: E: F: etc.

| | | The problem described below applies to Madden2003, Tiger Woods 2004, NHL2003 etc.. (all of them...)
| | | I'm running Windows XP on my machine (and it's brand new!)
| | |
| | | The installation begins with asking for the verification code but after I type it in, it is as if the installation
has been
| | cancelled (I end up back in windows). Note that I am not entering the wrong code! This happens on all of the mentioned
games
| :)
| | | Atfer entering the code when trying to install for instance Tiger Woods I get the question 'Are you sure you want to
cancel
| the
| | installation' even though i pressed the 'ok' button (which should continue the installation, not cancel it!)
| | |
| | | Anyway, I updated my drivers, directx and so forth but the problem remains... until today when I got alittle bit
further!
| | | I have three user accounts on the computer (all with admin access), and when I changed to another account and tried
to
| install
| | the games installation continued without any problems until the very end of the installation process where they all
crashed
| again...
| | | I also tried installting them on the third account but then I had the same problems as with the first, it didn't
work.
| | |
| | | This made me suspect Windows being the problem. Why does installation go further with one of the three accounts even
though
| the
| | all have admin rights and are basically all the same?
| | |
| | | Can anyone give me some tips on this one? Would appreciate it!! :)

|
