FYI for problematic Remote Desktop Users

It has come to my attention that Qwest service featuring
MSN Broadband modem model DSL 1000 does NOT support
incoming requests on port 3389. Port 3389 is the famous
port that is used for Remote Desktop Connection.
Although it does offer outgoing requests on port 3389,
which means that you can connection to a different
computer on the internet with capable RDC enabled, it
does not mean that you can connect to the host using this
particular modem. This may answer SOME questions out
there about your Remote Desktop not working, but for
other providers of the DSL/Cable modem, I'm not sure.
Just call the provider and ask.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Good point, but what ports are unused? And if they are
not unused how does the internet know if it is a TCP or
UDP protocol? Heres the scoop, I've changed my RDC port
number from 3389 to a different number(not telling for
security purposes;) When I do a port scan to see if that
certain port is open, it tells me it's still closed. I
have zonealarm set so that the incoming and outgoing tcp
ports accept this certain port number. Do I have to add
a new type of service under the IFC, and enable the port
for either udp or tcp? Also, what do I enter for the
name or ip address,...do I had the NAT IP, or the
Internet IP?

Thanks for the help
