Full Page Images Covering up Slide Numbers...

I have a number of full page images that naturally cover up the slide number
which is on the master.

Is there anyway to have that page number appear over the image? At the very
least, is there a way to insert an auto-updating page number text box on
that slide (that will calculate and display the correct page number and not
just be static)?

Insert the full page image as the background for that particular slide and
the automatic numbering will shine through.
