Fujifilm camera problem

Hello, all.

I did a search on this NG and found that someone had asked about a Fujifilm
A303 camera. He was having problems with respect to XP not showing the
generic volume drive G: in Explorer. He was given a couple of suggestions,
but did not report back any success.

I have a Fujifilm 3800, and I have the same issue. XP detects the camera,
and if you go into Device Manager, it shows it being there and tells you
that the device is working properly. Trouble is, I expect to see something
listed in Explorer, but even though the Device Manager says the camera is
drive G:, there is no G: listed.

I have been all over Fuji's site tonight, and I'm perplexed. I have
completely removed the software and drivers, and simply connected the camera
once all that was done. XP detected the camera, installed a Microsoft
driver (this camera is advertised as being XP compatible) and it shows up
again in Device Manager.

How come I can't see it to get at my pictures?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Q,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I will give this a shot, as I have
exhausted all other avenues.

Thanks for the suggestion, John. I may have to resort to that.
However, I am still wondering why XP doesn't display that dang volume
in Explorer. It's driving me nuts! :)

A USB memory card reader would solve your problems.

You can try this which sometimes clears things up. Connect the camera.
Go to Device manager, and select to view hidden devices. Remove all of
the references to the camera. From Add/Remove, remove the TWAIN
references for the camera, if any. Shut down, remove the camera,
reboot, and follow the original installation instructions.

John,

I placed an order for a card reader today! Should make things nice and
easy!

Update:
While I DID order a card reader, I realised that maybe something else was at
play here. I have two USB ports on the motherboard, and a PCI slot with a
USB 4-port card in it. The camera was connected via the PCI card. I moved
the USB cable to one of the motherboard ports, and voila! it works. Weird.
Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes. I'm still going to use the card
reader though. It will be easier to use than attaching the camera to the
computer all the time.

Craig.
