Fujifilm S5000 I/O Error

I have a S5000 Digital camera connecting to a Gateway running XP. When
connecting my camera to the PC via USB connection I get an I/O error (it has
worked on rare attempts). When I attach to my Mom's PC, it works fine. Here
is a list of what I have tried. Please help.

1. Connected to all the different USB ports. Disconnected all working USB
devices then tried in all USB ports.

2. Downloaded the USB device driver from Fujifilm for XP.

3. Reloaded all Fujifilm software.

4. E-mailed Fujifilm. Called Fujifilm help desk. Was told it is a known
problem and is hardware related.

5. Contacted Gateway computer. They have never heard of this problem. Was
told it is a software issue.

6. Looked on several websites. Others have posted this exact same problem
(always seems to be with a new PC running XP). No one seems to know why, or
how to fix.

7. This is my last attemp before contacting Fujifilm and demanding my money
back, and full refund (this could be difficult as I have had the camera for
quite awhile. Always went to mom's house to download.)

I have had problems with the software bundled with my last 2 Fuji camera's
so now I just use windows explorer, and the free image resizer download from
Microsoft. When I installed my A340 my system just froze, rebooted in safe
mode, uninstalled the Fuji stuff and the system has been fine

Here's a hint:

Ignore _all_ software bundled with cameras, and get some good
software that you can use and that will grow with you (and
outlive your current camera). Adobe Photoshop Elements is a
good place to start if you have any but the most casual
ambitions. If you get hooked on digital photography, you can
always step up to full Photoshop, and you'll never have to
say that your tools are limiting!

And forget the computer-to-camera cable for transferring
photo files. Just get a media reader and remove the media
from the camera and plug it into the reader. Windows explorer
then provides a _very_ versatile drag-and-drop interface for
moving files anywhere you want them.
