FTP and DFS

Will it be advisable to set up an FTP to use a domain DFS rather than to
store files locally? I like the idea of being able to move data around to
other storage location without having to worry about where it will have to
reside by just repointing the DFS link. I also like the idea of being able
to create replications. Is this the norm?

You can do this. Just configure the FTP Home Directory to the DFS link in
IIS. You'll need to permission the DFS tree properly, of course.

Thanks for the quick reply Brian. Does anyone know how it will affect
performance? I am looking at providing FTP service for about 40000 users.
Would you recommend using DFS for easier data movement, hardware upgrade and
redundancy?

I've never tried this, quite honestly. Are you looking at mostly writes,
reads, balance of both? The limiting factor will probably be the bandwidth
between the FTP Server and the DFS file servers.
