G

Guest

Just upgraded to Vista for DX10 - previous version was XP -
Had a program for FSX - VoiceBuddy by eDimensional which is great for
simming. Ran fine under XP - After Vista upgrade, the program will install
fine, but when opened, it freezes up NOT RESPONDING - I've tried everything -
even used the upgraded vista driver to no avail. You help and ideas would be
most appreciated.

Hi cthiggin,

I would have suggested this update had I found that application
listed (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929427) however the
developers of VoiceBuddy may have an update available soon!

Hello Jimmy,
Hopefully, this will be the life-saver - As stated, I have tried everything,
from turning of UAC, installing outside of program files in root of C:, to no
avail.
I have been using the vendors "vista patch" to no avail. I took a chance
and installed it on an empty partition or D: - It works half of the time - it
appears the delay from my voice command and the time it needs to access d, it
gets confused.
I am sure going to try this and hopefully it will work "without the possible
issues of my cd/dvd crashing.
(FYI) I have been talking with MS for several days on an ethernet proplem to
my printer, can ping it fine, however it won't do a test page or anything
else - the MS tech that has been on this case since inception is as
frustrated as I am - Yesterday, he said "it has to be in the protection
layering of Vista - he's going to get with the "engineers" to try and
resolve. Of course, all of the issues didn't exist under XP.
THANKS for your research - stay in touch.

To Jimmy - Tried to install the "patch" you recommended - Vista came back and
state not a viable program for this version - go figure - I have Vista Home
Premium. Any other suggestions ? I have contacted the vendor and they are
having the engineers look into it ???? - I have talked to other simmers and
they tell me it works with their vista - my pc is as clean as a whistle -
used primarily with Pagemaker, Illustrator, Photoshop - virtually NO junk on
this unit.
Thanks again, cthiggin

Hello again Jimmy,
I tried to install the Vista "patch" you suggested - Vista came back and
said this program is not viable with this version - ? I have Vista Home
Premium - The vendor of VB is having their engineers look into the problem -
AND I have threads on the flight sim forums that other folks aren't have any
problems - My pc is as clean as a whistle, with only Illustrator / Photoshop
/ and Pagemaker - It was an up-grade install over XP Media Center OS - I
certainly defragged / cleaned / make backups of impt. files - maybe I should
have done a clean install???? - Any more ideas??
Thanks again, cthiggin

Hi cthiggin,

After mulling over your posts for a few days and not
finding any similar situations in my research either, I
have to suggest that you test all your hardware to be
sure that it's compatible with Vista, remove anything
that isn't and then perform a clean install of the OS.

Hello Jimmy,
UPDATE - MS has been working on a problem with talking to my ethernet
printer - they're just stumped - Can ping it fine, but it will not accept
files to print - NOR can I ftp the printer ? They have escalated the case to
engineers - worked fine under xp -
OK - I installed Voice Buddy on partition D: AND it worked pretty well -
Seemed like a little delay when I would say a command and the time to access
the file on D: -
In talking to my MS rep today (ethernet problem) , we were discussing how
Vista does not like for anything to be accessed in the program files - he
suggested to install Voice Buddy in a folder, outside of Programs, and try
it....I told him I had installed it in the root of C:, but he said that was
different -
I installed in a folder, Voice Buddy, AND the thing works fine - go figure?
Maybe this will help someone else.........................
Stay in touch and thanks so much -
I also had a call today from MS on the FSX issue of very low FPS - in
summary, he tweaked my Nvidia 8800GTS settings, had to move autogen and a few
others lower,
and reduced my screen resolution - started getting 20 - 25 fps - it's not as
pretty, but it's not jerky.
He said AT LEAST, I would have the hardware READY - when FSX SP1 comes out,
along with patches for DirX10, AND when Nvidia cleans up and tweaks their
drivers. He said with my setup, 6 months from now, I should see 50 - 60
fps......
What do you think???????????
Thanks again Jimmy - You help and research is highly appreciated.

Hi cthiggin,

I remember since the days of Windows 98 there had been
reports of software not running if installed in the root (c:\).
Back then, the reason was due to FAT limitations. Out of
curiosity, which file system are you using with Vista?

Hi cthiggin,

According to everything I've read, it's the drivers.
You might try going into Windowed Mode and then
Maximizing the window to get more performance.

Are you referring to "Window Mode" in FSX? - if so, I've tried that and it
doesn't change anything............the flightsim forum I use is really saying
as of today -
the new FSX sp1 is going to "slow" FSX by up to 10 fps - Guess I'll be
flying backwards then - ALSO, that the high end nVidia 8800gts card I'm
using/Dir X compatible really has some driver issues - along with new patches
for DirX 10 later this fall - Just seems like it should be easier than that -
along with the fact as to why the developers of FSX could have made it where
it's not such a cpu hog -
I just don't want to upgrade a mb and new ram/processor - I've done shelled
out big dollars for a 22" Wide Screen Monitor / Nvidia Card / Vista -
Thanks Jimmy.

Hi cthiggin,

Have you also tried the microsoft.public.simulator newsgroup.
It's frequented by some of the Flight Simulator MVP's who
may be able to offer some advice specific to this issue. :)

|||||||| Hello Jimmy,
|||||||| Hopefully, this will be the life-saver - As stated, I have tried everything,
|||||||| from turning of UAC, installing outside of program files in root of C:, to no
|||||||| avail.
|||||||| I have been using the vendors "vista patch" to no avail. I took a chance
|||||||| and installed it on an empty partition or D: - It works half of the time - it
|||||||| appears the delay from my voice command and the time it needs to access d, it
|||||||| gets confused.
