Frustrating install problem

In trying to do an initial installation on a Gigabyte
GA-7NNXP motherboard (nVidia nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset)
with a full retail copy of WinXP Pro (version 2002), the
installaton fails after the initial reboot. System boots
from hard drive, get an initial XP splash screen with black
background, then a blue screen with white letters
"Installation is being restarted" Screen then goes to
black and no subsequent display. Disk activity for 45-60
seconds after the black screen then nothing.

Other research indicates that this may well be an inability
of the installer and/orWinXP Pro to properly deal with the
AGP chipset, but there seems to be no way to install an
updated driver (from the manufacturers CD) prior to this
stage.

HW is a GA-7NNXP motherboard, with AMD XP3200+ CPU, pair
of Kingston PC3200 512MB DDR DIMMS for a total of 1 GB, ATI
9600 SE (128MB) video card, Pioneer A06 DVD R/RW and a pair
of 80 GB Samsung EIDE drives.

Any suggestions or work arounds would be a great help

TIA

When you first start the installation, there is a prompt at the bottom
to hit F6 to install additional drivers, like if you have drive
controllers, scsi, etc. Otherwise, failure to install the os probably
has to do with faulty hardware. I know your hardware is new, but that
doesn't mean anything. Do a RAM test and if that tests OK, test the
hard drive. You may also want to check out the forums on www.amdmb.com.
They are very helpful and there's a good chance people with your exact
m/b are posting.
