Frozen blue/logon screen

When I turn on my computer, the black XP Pro screen
appears, then the blue screen appears where I usually
select the user. However, the unit freezes with the XP
logo on the blue screen and the users never appear. CTL-
ALT-Del does not work, no keys work, but I can move the
pointer with my touchpad. I've run e-diagnostics and the
system hardware checks out fine. I cannot boot in safe
mode. I've kept current w/MS Updates, and Norton
Anitivirus.

This has happened 3 times in the last 6 months, and the
only thing I've done and been told to do is do a system
restore. What are my other options? Do I need a new OS?

Thanks,
Dave

I am having a similar problem. Yesterday, the computer ran fine & I shut it down for the night like normal. This morning, however, when I turned the computer on, it got stuck on a blue screen (which normally appears for less than 1 second) with HP in the middle and will not do anything else. No keys work, and the computer does not even try to read any disks. I fear either the latest hotfix corrupted my computer, or I've gotten a virus. Any ideas on how I can fix this?
