There are two ways you could proceed:

1. when traveling and wanting to use the laptop (assuming you have
been using your desktop pc to update your website): From FP on your
desktop, Publish your most current version to your laptop. Then when
on the road, us the laptop for any updating. When you return home,
your desktop copy will be outdated, so use FP to open up your current
website at your ISP (that will now be current) and publish it to your
desktop and you are back where you started.

2. What I do: I use the free version of logmein.com to connect to my
home computer remotely when I travel, so any updating I do is actually
done from the same computer I normally use. As a precaution, I have a
my pc on a timer that restarts it in the middle of the night just in
case it locks up while I am on the road.

And oh, I forgot, the other precaution I take is to go into "setup" on
my desktop and set the computer to restart when coming back from a
power outage (we have too many of those!)
