FrontPage Search Component

I am using FrontPage 2003, went to insert webcomponet, Web Search and got a
nice search box on my website. I can preview it and see it, but when I use a
preview in browser or try to view it on the Website, I simply get a FrontPage
Search Component text that shows up. Anyone know what is going on?

My first response would be to make sure that the server
you're publishing to has the FP server extensions
installed. That would not explain why you cannot see it
in your browser window (perhaps check your browser
settings?). Good luck!

FP 2003 still needs server extensions? we had a page up with an earlier
version adn it worked. are the FP 2003 extensions different?

FP 2003 uses the latest FP 2002 extensions. There are no new versions. It
will also work with FP 2000 extensions, as long as you don't use any of the
features that require a higher version.

The server is running FPSE 2002. There are no features I am using except the
Search and as I stated earlier it is the only feature that is not working
properly. I just can't figure it out.

If the server is Windows IIS, then the host must enable Index Server and create a Index Catalog for
your site. Have you contact your host?

Yes I have. He did this this morning. Before that I was just getting an
error message. Now I show no Search Box and only the text of FrontPage
Search Component. any other ideas?

Did you publish via http:// to the site? If yes, then open the site directly in FP, remove the
search component, save the page, then reopen the page and add the search component back in, save.
Then run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks, then test the page.

If still having a problem, provide a URL to the page with the search component.

this still did not help.

i cannot provide the URL b/c it is for an Intranet site and you would not be
able to get to it.

thanks for your help...i will keep looking.

I am having the exact same problem, except I use FP 2002. Have gone back and
forth with the host to no avail. Have recalculated, deleted the component
recalculated and tried again, deleted the page, created a new one, added the
search component, recalculated and still nothing. Can not get a search
componenet to run on this site. All attempts have been in Subwebs, as I was
told they must be.
Here is a link to one I just created.

http://www.irvingfirefighters.org/STORE/search.htm

Question: How do I know if my site has been indexed by the host? I find no
files or folders that suggest it has been.

Thanks in advance

Gerard

How are you inserting the search component, locally and then publishing to the live/remote site via
FP's http mode or via FTP?

If you feel your current issue is a results of installing
a Service Pack or security update, please contact
Microsoft Product Support Services:
http://support.microsoft.com
If the problem can be shown to have been caused by a
security update, then there is usually no charge for the call.

Open the subweb online in FP
File Open site http://www.irvingfirefighters.org/STORE/
Open the search page and resave it, then run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks and file Preview in browser
Note:
since you are apparently on a windows server check w/ your host is they are using Index catalog and have created one for your subweb
(if they are set your search form properties to use it)
