Frontpage republish all the site if the IP server change?

Luca

Hi,

my ISP has changed the IP for my domain.

Now, I'm going to publish the domain (it contain more than 4000 files)
and evenif publish only the pages changed in the last days as usuall it
starts back to republish all the 4000 files!!!!!

Of course I haven't changed the Publish Options where it's specified to
publish ONLY the files that have differente date and time from my
server and infact connectin FTP to my space other than the files just
modifyed the other have the same date / time....but Frontpage seems
that as the ISP changed the IP address its ignore the date/time
parameter and republish everything!!

Do you have any idea how to solve the problem, as to republish more
than 4000 files takes a lot of times and we already get an error at the
end of publish (after one night of publish) as the server answerd back
that there is no Frontpage server on the IP specifyed (after he
finished the publish.....)

thank you in advance,
Luca

I think that's because technically you're publishing to a new
server....you'll have to do one full publish then from then on do changed
pages.

If it is actually a New Server, then this would apply because you cannot
just locally copy a FP site from one server to another. That would be the
same as using a FTP program. It will not function correctly. It will
transfer, but the Frontpage parameters would not be set. You would then be
require to publish the entire site to set the entire parameters for your
Frontpage site.

If however the IP was the only thing changed and it is the same server,
publishing just the updates should work.

Now you need to take into account that the DNS sometimes needs a day or two
to clear out of cache and point to the correct IP.

Make sure that your ISP has updated any DNS that might have applied and that
your site's DNS is pointing to the correct server. If all the parameters are
set correctly, then you will need to allow 24 to 36 hours for the new
parameters to set fully. If it was a small site and you were able to see it,
then publishing would not be a problem because of the size, but since it is
a big site. this could be why you are having a hard time because the IP
changes are not completly flushed through the internet yet. When IP's and
DNS are modified, it is sometimes sporadic with logging in. At first, you
can log on, then log off and then immediatetly try to log on again and it
will not work. This is because that it has not yet flushed through the
entire system yet because of the way that it is directed through the
internet.

Having said all of this, if they have changed their server, you will need to
do a Full Publish resetting everything. If it is just an IP change, then
just updating like you normally do would work. Both scenarios will however
require you to allow time for the DNS changes to take effect.

Hope this helps
