FrontPage Publishing Speed

Hi,

When I publish any site with FP2003, the indicator at the bottom of the
screen shows a transfer rate of c23/29kb.

As I am running BroadBand I find this extremely slow and very annoying,
especially as when I FTP I get almost my full Upstream rate.

Is FP2003 limited in the speed at which it publishes?

This happens all the time, regardless of the size of the site I am
publishing and regardless of the server I am publishing to.

Also, I do know for certain that this has nothing to do with the servers
that I publish to.

Kind regards,

Peter

Peter:

FrontPage doesn't limit transfer speed. It will publish as fast as your
hardware\software\ISP configuration allows.

You're also correct in that the servers you are publishing to have no
bearing in the speed, speaking in a purely hardware sense. There are several
factors which have an impact on throughput. Unfortunately, your
troubleshooting is just beginning as we can remove FrontPage from the
equation.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

When you FTP, you are simply copying files from one machine to another. When
you publish with FrontPage, the server extensions are doing quite a bit more
than that, keeping track of your changes, which files are new, writing
metadata, etc.

Have a cup of coffee, and look at the experience as an exercise in patience.

Hi John and Kevin,

Once again you have both explained what is happening and why, which is what
I was looking for.

I have tested and checked and then double checked my setup and can find no
reason that there should be a problem with my system, so that is good.

I do know a couple of other people that use FP and they both have the same
publishing speed, so I guess that this is something that I will have to live
with.

As you say, patience is a virtue, and as I do webdesign as a hobby, I am in
no rush to do other things whilst FP is publishing lol.

Many thanks for your replies.

Peter
