Frontpage for Dummies

Do you think that you need to be a programmer to use Frontpage for web sites?
I am not a programmer and have not had any training, but I am really great
with Applications of all sorts and was hoping that I would be able to teach
myself to use FP. Be encouraging!

Step One: Make sure you create a Web (Site) when you begin...not just "loose" pages.

No you do not need to be a programmer, however you should consider learning HTML, JavaScript and
(ASP/VBScript or PHP depending your hosting server).

ya know - I have been working with my site and am having some problems. But
the thing is - I did just that. created a bunch of loose pages instead of a
web site. I guess I was supposed to create a web site before I ever put
anything on those pages at all...right? Maybe now I need to start over.
Good thing it isn't a huge site!

Save on aspirin:

1. Turn off your computer,
2. Go to your favorite bookstore and purchase "Microsoft
Front Page Inside Out" by Jim Buyens for your version,
3. Read the book, then
4. Turn on your computer and have at it.

A programmer? Heavens, no. Skilled with HTML? It sure helps. The good news
is, FrontPage can actually help you to LEARN HTML, as you can look at the
source code it generates any time. HTML isn't programming; it's design. Yes,
there are some bells and whistles you can add with JavaScript, and
server-side programming if you want to/can. But basically, an HTML document
is simply a document created using HTML markup for formatting and design.

Go for it! We'll be here when you need us.

The idea of Frontpage is so you don't have to be a programmer. So if you can use
MS Word, I'm sure you'll catch on to frontpage quickly. It might be worth
getting a book or browsing a few tutorial sites.

Well, suppose you wanted to create your own personal home page with
hyperlinks? You could store it anywhere on your drive and point to it in ie
or netscape.
Also, suppose someone asked you to create a single page that they could use
in THEIR website?

You don't need to create a homepage with hyperlinks.

That's why I said "suppose you wanted to".
That being said, on your homepage, you could use all sorts of goodies like
interactive buttons, etc.
Now...store(hide) this page on one of your sites and you can access it from
anywhere.
Try putting an interactive button in your favorites folder and accessing it
from 2000 miles away. Not being sarcastic, but sometimes we need to think
*outside* of our computer room.
All things considered, this is in reply to E.T.'s comment.
If I was asked to create a "loose" page for someone, I would certainly hope
I could do so using FP. Don'tchathink?

Robin,

You sound a lot like me; not a programmer but OK with applications. I bought
Front Page after a friend gave me free hosting and got me a URL. I just
started clicking around - no book, no training, no nothing. It's taken me a
couple of months now to create my "work in progress", and I've started
dinking around with HTML. Most anyone can jump into Front Page and start
clicking. It's turned into a great hobby, and I'm really enjoying it. I am
absolutely amazed at the patience, experience and wisdom of people in this
forum who jump in to help you out. They are truly gracious people. Click

hehee...I've been clicking away at fp since version 1...I stopped for 6months to learn Photoshop ...then picked it back up again.
