FrontPage 2003 must be restarted constantly to load page includes or graphics

Upgraded to FP 2003 from FP 2000 earlier this year and have a continual
annoying problem that after editing a few pages, eventually FP will give
error stating not able to load certain pages (.htm that are the includes)
and also the images will not display in the edit mode (just showing 'x'
placeholders).

Only way to correct is to exit and reload FP 2003. This is happening
regularly now and it takes much, much longer to work on a site that needed.
I heard there was some 'cache' issues with FP 2003 but cannot imagine anyone
having to consistently deal with this issue. Is there a fix or resolution?

If you are editing against server-based webs with FP2002 extensions
the caches in the extensions need to be increased.
The process below cures the included page problem, it may cure the
image problem but that may be something else.
If you have access to the server, open the FrontPage extensions
administration pages for the web
Start->Control Panel->Administration Tools->Microsoft SharePoint
Administration
Then open the Admin. page for the website, (you may need to log in as
the website administrator) choose Change Configuration
In the section Performance Tuning, adjust the Image File Cache and
Include File Cache settings - I use 64 images/documents for each - and
submit.
If you do not have access to the server, ask your host.
There is no similar adjustment for disc based webs.

I was following along to see what you meant here and find that:

Those Performance Tuning entries look like they are defaulted to
nothing...should something generally be in be in there for better
performance?

I notice that Server Health is defaulted off...shouldn't it be on?

Is there a *noobie* handbook for more info on running a local IIS server?

Server Health is only turned on when you need to fix something.

Thanks for the reply. Most of my webs are disk based so I guess there is no
solution. I cannot believe that there is no solution from Microsoft. I can't
imagine anyone being satisfied with this hassle. Wasn't an issue with FP
2002 or earlier.

Ronx has provide you with the solution, which is a extensions configuration issue.

Have you tried the FrontPage clean up procedures??

If not go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm
and download FP Cleaner.
Run the functions that clear the FrontPage temporary files, and the
Cache(.web) files.

Yes, I saw the post. But it stated:

"There is no similar adjustment for disc based webs."

and almost all of my webs are disk based. I took that to mean that his
solution would not help me.
Did I misunderstand his reply?

R

Ronx

You understood correctly - my solution applies to server based webs
only. I have never seen this problem with disc-based webs, unless you
are using the ICRA add-in? This stops include files loading in design
view and preview.
