Move MS FrontPage 2003 application from my computer to my new comp

Bette Rose

I am long time user/owner of MS FrontPage 2003. Recently have a new computer
with MS Windows Vista and MS Office 2007 w/ SharePoint Designer 2007. My web
was designed with FrontPage 2003 and I find I need this FP 2003 software on
my new system when publishing pages (.aspx, html, forms). I do not have the
installation disk but do have all my FrontPage product and key information.
I would love some direction and advice as to how to obtain the software onto
my computer for Designer/FP compatibility in my web designing. It may just be
a service package that I need to get the resolution.

If you only need FP2003 for publishing I would use SharePoint Designer -
it uses the same screens and methods for publishing as FP2003.

FP2003 supports .NET v1 whereas SharePoint Designer supports .NET v2 -
this, and VML graphics (WordArt, ShapeArt etc.), are the only areas
where you may have problems if you need FP2003 for editing.

Replacement discs may be available from Microsoft - see

Thank you, Ron. I went to the support kb at 326246 as recommended. The
contact for replacements was an 800 number, however, I never got through (2
times trying). I was kept on hold for a while, whereby, I had to hang up to
help my staff.

I will keep trying to get through to place a replacement order. I shouldn't
have to pay for the software twice...I have the product and key information.
It sounds like I will be charged by MS for a replacement.

Isn't there a way I can move or copy the software program from my old
computer to my new one? It shouldn't be this hard or is it? However, I do not
know how to get the operating files and would not want to mess up anything by
trying to do the transferring myself, knowledgeably.

Thank you.

Smiling regards,
Bette Rose

Replacement disks are not as expensive..it's just a disk since you have the
product key. However, it may be that MS no longer has copies.

You must install from the media, there is nothing on the computer to let you
install it on another.

Tom and Ron,

Thanks Tom for squaring me away on the ability to transfer the software
application from one computer to another.

Thank you guys so much. I finally got through to the customer service desk
to order the replacement. This time I got music to listen to while I waited
for an assistant so the waiting wasn't as irritable. For anyone interested
the disk costs $28 plus $5.00 S&H, and tax. My disk will cost $30.03. Not too
bad. I should get it in three to ten business days.

I need to find out more about VML and the .net version variations. I cannot
find the term in any acronym association. Will I be able to use both the FP
and Designer. There are so very many things I like about FrontPage usability.
For example, the Autoshapes does not appear in the Designer. Please refer me
to some reading or hands on material for a better understanding.
Smiles always,
Bette

VML should be avoided in a web site - see
http://www.rxs-enterprises.org/tests/vml-graphics/
for some reasons why.

VML was removed from Expression Web and SharePoint Designer. You can
use Word (or FrontPage) to create the shapes and copy to a graphics
editor to convert to .gif or .jpg images for the web site. Alt+PrtScn
will copy the Word window (with the graphic) onto the clipboard, then
Paste into the graphics editor, crop and save for the web.

SharePoint Designer and FrontPage will co-exist very nicely.
