FrontPage 2003 Inserting Hyperlink - Error and thrown out program

G

Guest

Hi I just bought FrontPage 2003 and doing the Tutorial from the program.

FrontPage 2003 program is giving me an error everytime I try to hyperlink
hightlighted words in the webpage through use of the menu Insert - Hyperlink
- for Existing File or Webpage - Microsoft Error Report box pops-up and I
send it with the report and then the Error Report knocks me out of the
program. I have not gotten a response from Microsoft and it keeps doing it
every time I try to insert the hyperlink. This has happen 4 times -- tries
have been on different days.

Below are the exact steps I've been attempting before I get the error
message from Microsoft and submit report box:

Exercise 8: Insert a hyperlink to the Products page
In the second paragraph, select the text: Our products.
On the Insert menu, click Hyperlink.
On the left, click Existing File or Web Page.
Click the products.htm file, and then click OK.

[This is where the Microsoft Error box appears and I send the report and
then I am knock out of the program]

Does it have anything to do with Sun Java or PaintShop Pro 9 Programs and
comparibility with FrontPage 2003 or is it something else?

Can anyone help me solve the problem within Frontpage 2003?

Thanks.

Lynne

Have you tried the usual repairs in the sequence below:
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
4) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)
5) Run a repair of FP (Help - Detect & Repair)
6) Open FP and Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins,
7) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

Look I have Microsoft XP Professional Updates everyday and I got the patches
for FrontPage 2003 when I installed the program - I deleted the Temporary
Files for FrontPage 2003 from Temp. Internet from IE 6.0. I haven't used a
Server yet I just got program and learning it. I am not at the point or with
a Hosting Site yet. There were no Add-in in the FrontPage 2003. I have
Norton and McAfee that have live updates and two firewalls - so this Computer
is very protected - it is the program I am sure. I also have Dell Live
Support that make sure my other software and hardware are compatible or tell
me when I have to make updates.

I guess I have to try another forum if this one cannot help. I was warned
about FrontPage 2003 and told other Website Design software programs were
better and see that the warning was justified for Microsoft isn't providing
support through error message either. Microsoft is going to get a bad rep
soon if they cannot fix their own problems or provide support - they are not
a monopoly in the field and getting lots competition everyday. It is bad
business to not help there customers who bought their products.

I appreciate his suggestion - it just didn't work. That is why I asked if
anyone else might have a different approach that could solve the problem.

But if there isn't any - I try some other forums.

Again If Microsoft cannot find ways to help their customers - they will get
a bad rep - rap and lose them to the growing competition.

Try unininstalling FP, and reinstalling. Before you install FP, make sure
your computer is clear of all malware and viruses.

Be sure to disable your anti-virus program (auto-protect) *before*
uninstalling and do not re-enable it until after you reinstall it.

If you had the anti-virus running, you may have corrupted the install.

If all else fails, contact MS directly for support.

I understand your frustration, but countless other people have successfully
installed and run FrontPage. Ranting will only make you more frustrated.
