Frontpage 2003 and Dreamweaver 8

Wonder if you guys can help with a problem we have.

We have a website built with FP2003 and have made some changes to the
index.html page with DW8. Now when we make changes again using FP and
publish it goes through the montions and seems to be publishing but no
changes are made to the actual site.

What is the problem and how can be resolve it? Thanks

Was the page published outside of FP? FP keeps track of a lot of information
in special meta files within hidden FP directories. It could be that since
the changes were made in DW then FP didn't recognize that changes were made
and isn't publishing the file. You may want to run a recalculate hyperlinks.
This cases the FP Server Extensions to scan the files in an FP web and
perform actions such as re-indexing them and updating the meta file
information..

Thanks for your swift response Mark.

The site was created in FP and then the index page was edited in DW. Only
simple changes like META tags and stuff. It was then uploaded to the server
using DW.

However, since file was update and uploaded outside of FP, FP is not aware that the file has been
changed. You have to open the live/remote site in FP and run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks.

I would never share development between FP and DW on any site. It's much
too dangerous.

In what way is it dangerous? Are you saying that by opening the site in
live/ remote in FP and running relaculate hyperlinks is a bad idea.

What would running this acheive anyway?

Thanks for your help.

I think the danger Murray is talking about relates to what Thomas said -
"since file was update and uploaded outside of FP, FP is not aware that the
file has been changed". Now you should recalulate hyperlinks to bring FP
back in sync.

That's it. It would be too easy to inadvertantly break something by using
both platforms on the same site.

Thanks Muray. So to rectify we need to open in Live/Remote view and then
Recalculate Hyperlinks.

If we keep a complete backup of the site, then I assume we could always
clear the webspace and then upload it again completely. This would be the
last resort though.

Thanks for your help, I am just nervous about doing this!

Regards
