FrontPage 2002 closes when opening most web files

I'm using XP and am new to FrontPage. I have spent the last several months
learning the program and developed several practice web sites. No problems
until 2 days ago when a Windows error message informed me it had to close
the FrontPage program and offered an apology for any inconvenience. I found a
couple of Q&A's dealing with the same issue. Each got their problem solved
but their solution didn't fix mine. (One of them was posted 10/28/05 using
F.P. 2003).

What seems strange is that F.P. doesn't close down with all of my web page
files. It seems that the ones that have not been modified from the original
wizard based construction, (no added color, page or hyperlink styles,
graphics, etc.), function well within the program, well at least for the most
part. One of the wizard pages contains links to external webs. I clicked on
one to MSN on that page and it immediately closed FrontPage. Even when I try
to build a new web page and open a template with embedded configuration, it
will usually close the program. The problem seems to be getting more
sensative, shutting down with files that at the beginning opened fine.

I have eliminated all IE & Front Pg. temp files as well as the CMDUI.PRF
file. I scanned and defragmented the HD, checked log entry in Event Viewer
and reinstalled the F.P. program. I copied the web site and opened it on a
laptop with Windows ME and it opens and navigates fine using the same version
of F.Page. If I change computors, what's to say I won't end up with the same
problem there also?

I'm nearing a deadline and am very frustrated. I really hope there is a
solution for me also.

Rob, I appreciated your quick response. I downloaded Steve Easton's "FP
cleaner and ran all parts of it. I still have the same problem. The program
continues to close when I open a web page and double click on the index or
other main page of the file. Any other thoughts?

Thanks for your input. I just ran detect and repair. I didn't get a report of
any kind saying a problem was found, so I assume there was no problem. But I
still have same problem of FP closing when opening a web file. I don't know
what else to try. Help!!!!!!

Is FP only doing this on specific pages/files?

Thank you Thomas for responding.

The patterrn seems to be when I open the home page or a page directly
linked to home. For example, where "Corporate" design wizard builds the News,
Products and Services pages and shows those links on the home page, if I
double click "Home" or one of those links in "Folders" view, the program
closes. But, if I click on the "Feedback", "Contents" or "Search" pages in
"Folder" view, they open and then in "Page" view, I can Ctrl/click their
links and switch back and forth from one to another. If I Ctrl/click the
"Home" link the prog. closes. Likewise in "Folder" view, if I double click
the "Child" pages under News, Products or Services, they usually open, but if
I click on the "UP" link going back to the "Home" page it closes.

When I get one of the pages opened that does open in page view and then send
it to "Preview in Browser", I can navigate through all the pages without any
problem.

Again, I had been working just fine in any one of my practice web files
until that fatal moment when something happened and I don't know what. At the
moment when I received the error message, the computor also popped up a
message saying that I needed to download a service pack, Number 3 I believe
it said. I clicked yes to download but a message said it wasn't able do it at
that time. I really don't remember the exact sequence of everything that
happened, but I believe FP closed first and that's when I got the computor
message to upgrade. Just today MS attempted again to update my computor with
the Service Pack3 and this time it loaded just fine. I hoped it would fix my
problem but didn't.

Again, I appreciate everyones response. Sooner or later we'll surely get the
problem solved.

A few other people have reported problems here in the newsgroup with the
Corporate Presence Wizard. Can you try one of the others to see if they work
and let us know?
