Front Page 2003 site on Windows Server 2003 Web Edition problems

Dan

A consultant designed a web site for our organization using Front Page 2003.
He delivered it via CD-ROM. I copied the site to a Windows 2003 Web Edition
server with Front Page 2003 installed. When I try opening the site in FP
2003, I get the following error:

"Server error: The server extenstions were unable to access the file
'C:\...\_vti_pvt\service.lck'. Please check the file permissions. Contact
your Internet service provider or Web server administrator for more
information."

I read on another newsgroup post that you should try import a site that was
made by someone else. I tried that, and I got the same error.

I also tried creating a site in Internet Services Manager, pointing it to
the folder containing the web, then Configuring Server Extensions 2002. But
when I do that, the administration hangs on "Please wait while changes are
being processed."

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You need to first copy the web to a folder on the server or a PC that has FP, then remove all
read-only attributes, then open the folder in FP and publish it to it final location.
