Front Page 2003 Remote Site Login

B

Bob

Since I upgraded to XP SP2 or for the last three days I
cannot publish my sites. When I try to login I
immediately get the login prompt again. I can ping my
site and I can open it directly in Ffront Page. I just
can't publish from my computer to the remote site since I
can't login.

My host is a front page server and It used to work just
fine.

Try opening the online one in FP, then also opening the local one and publishing

No luck there. It even still prompted for a password
after I successfully opened the remote site in another
window.

There have been reports of many issues when people upgrade to SP2.
Recommend you try posting in the Windows XP general newsgroup.

Hi Bob,

Have you tried turning off the firewall?
If this solves the problem then go to exceptions and add FrontPage.

Just a thought.......

I tried turning off the firewall and the pop up blocker.
I also tried to add FP as an exception, but couldn't find
it in the list.

I guess I didn't reboot after turning off the firewall,
but it said it was off. I'll try that too.

Control Panel>Security Center>Windows Firewall
(at the bottom)new window)>Exceptions (tab) Add Program
(button)new window) if FrontPage is not listed then click on
the browse button and add it to the list.

BTW: I have installed SP-2 on 9 machines (so far) without a hitch..

Thanks for pointing out the browse button. :) The browse
worked, but it didn't fix the problem either. I may try
to find a sniffer and see if I can tell what the
difference in the logging in to open a web site and the
loggin in to publish is.

I found that I am logging into a subdirectory when I try
to publish and the main domain directory when I try to
just open the site. Used to work just fine. Is there any
trick to managing a site with multiple sites in there.

Main -> /main dir
Site 2 -> / site 2 dir
Site 3 -> /main Dir/site 3

I saw something about sub sites somewhere, but I am not
sure that is what I want. Site 2 is a sub domain of the
main site domain.

I'm experiencing the same problem and even added FP to the exception
list and tried everything else you mentioned here. Did you ever get i
working? If so, how?

If you turn on Passive FTP, you will be able to use the remote site split
screen. You will also be able to upload files to your web page. However,
after you do, you will get an error message saying the web site could not be
located and the files you upload will show a conflict, even though they
uploaded correctly. I'm about to do a restore previous to the SP2
installation, unless someone has another answer.
